beginning brioche

Have you tried the brioche stitch before? Does it seems scary and above your pay grade? Never fear. We have the perfect lady to teach you where to begin. Jean will be helping to you overcome that fear and stretch your skill level.

Brioche is a knitting technique that creates a thick, cushiony, reversible fabric that is perfect for cowls, scarves, and shawls, as well as larger items. In this introductory class, you’ll learn how to do two-color brioche in-the-round. You’ll receive the instruction and pattern needed to complete a cozy cowl and the basics for advancing your brioche skills.

Skills required // experience with knit and purl stitches & knitting in the round. 

Materials needed: 

⁃ two contrasting worsted-weight yarns – 2 oz. Each

⁃ Size 6/__cm 16” circular needle

⁃ Stitch marker

⁃ Darning needle

⁃ Scissors

Homework: with darker color, cast on 114 stitches and work 5 rows of garter stitch in-the-round.

cuff down sock class

Part 1: Sunday, March 12th at 1:30pm // learn how to cast on and spend the next two weeks getting ready to turn your heel in part 2.

Part 2: Sunday, March 26th at 1:30pm // learn to turn your heel and how to complete the sock.

Erin will be teaching the cuff down method of sock knitting. It’s easier than you think. Socks make a great travel or on the go project. They are small, portable and give you an excuse to buy that beautiful single skein sock yarn you have your eye on..

Class fee is $20 per session plus your materials. Requirements for this class are // knit and purl stitches, knit in the round, and be able to magic loop or use dpn’s.

entrelac class

Have you seen these clever and beautiful squares knit and wondered how they achieved it? Erin will show you how in the making of the Quant headband. This is a free pattern on Ravelry.

Class fee is $20 plus your materials. This pattern calls for a size 8 needle, but bring sizes 6, 7, and 8 if you have them so you are able to obtain the correct gauge. Must be able to cast on and do the knits and purl stitches. Arrive early to select your yarn used to get this look of color work.

beginner crochet parts 1 and 2

Beginner’s Crochet Classes with Tracy

Beginner pt.1 // Learn the basics of crochet; chain, single, half double, and double stitches. The focus will be on the anatomy of the stitch and counting.

Saturday, March 5th from 10:00am – 12:00pm

Beginner pt. 2 // Learn about patterns and shaping, abbreviations in written patterns, symbols, charts, and even get into lace and making motifs.

Saturday, March 26th from 10:00am – 12:00pm

Fee is $15 for each class plus your supplies (crochet hook and yarn).

Mitten Class

The World’s Simplest Mittens by Tin Can Knits can be knit in almost any yarn weight. This free pattern is a great first mitten. If you know how to knit, purl and join in the round then this is a class for you. I made this pair with the Plymouth, Baby Alpaca. An incredibly soft worsted weight that will keep my hands warm on the cold Iowa days we know are ahead.
